Complex Underlying Structures to Correctly Restate Questions in the Answer

Restating the Question in the Answer is a language formulation task that requires the metalinguistic ability to drop the question word, identify the main idea or subject, and use understanding of parts of speech to find the verb. Once those steps are accomplished, students then must manipulate the sentence structure to restate an interrogative as a declarative sentence. Finally, the student must have well-developed working memory to retain the question and find the answer.
